Sudha G. Pillarisetti MD

He retired after 40+ years of practice and teaching of Pathology all over the globe.

Sudha’s birthplace is Visakhapatnam, a beautiful beach town on the Bay of Bengal in Southern India. His studies took him to different parts of India, a vast country with 28 states, 22 officially recognized languages, and close to 2000 dialects.

He has many interests, a man of few words, likes a quiet life. A pathologist by profession, with training and education in India and USA. After Medical education in India at Kurnool Medical College, he went to Chandigarh home of the prestigious PGIMER, for residency, training, and research in pathology. He is a Gold Medalist for his research and a Bronze Medalist for merit. He practiced pathology in many locations in various capacities in India and USA. 

Sudha’s professional career took him to Cleveland Ohio, Johnson City NY, Tampa FL, Danville IL, and Alexandria LA. His favorite words, to broaden your horizons, one must live and work in unique positions, roles, and places. He worked in Academic & VA Medical Centers as well as community hospitals. Sudha lives in Alexandria Louisiana for the last 35 years, with his wife of 44 years, Amy (Amarjit).

He loves teaching and taught medical students and residents (in training) at PGIMER Chandigarh, USF Tampa Florida, University of Illinois Urbana Champaign, and Medical School in Grenada (visiting professor). His leadership roles include Laboratory Medical Director St. Frances Cabrini Hospital, Chief of Service VA Medical Center Pineville LA, and senior pathologist Leonard Chabert Hospital. By focusing on patient care and standardization, achieved accreditation by CLIA and CAP. His focus was on quality control and error reduction in the clinical laboratory and software applications in the lab. He retired from service in 2019 after over 4 decades of professional practice.

Sudha developed many software applications for the hospital lab. To name a few, TNM Staging, XP 1000, Doc Lab, BLUT, Surgical Pathology Dissection Manual, Laboratory Test Validation. His software for Document Control (DocLab) and his implementation of the new Quality Plan (ISO Standards) earned Kudos from the American Association of Blood Banks.

His interests include photography, cooking, traveling, software development and reading that led to writing after retirement. His sons Dr. Ajay Pillarisetti Professor U C Berkley & Anoop Pillarisetti, a foodie entrepreneur in Brooklyn, both avid readers are graduates of Bolton Highschool.

His first fiction book is “Tiger Wallah” is about two strong women and two not so strong young men. His non-fiction is “Me? Biopsy?? OMG!!!’ has all that you want to know about the procedure in non-medical terms.
